About Theta Chapter
The Theta Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International was organized on April 1, 1939, by Miss Tommie Reynolds. In addition to Miss Reynolds, there were ten other charter members of Theta Chapter: Mrs. H.E. Cawthon*, Ms. Louise Oakley*, Mrs. Frank A Mercer, Ms. Eula Mae Ringold, Mrs. Flynn Pickens, Ms. Louise Austin, Ms. Maggie Jo Gray*, Ms. Irene S. Foy*, Ms. Osa Smith King*, and Ms. Gertrude Woodrow. These ladies began a legacy for the other women educators in Madison and Chester Counties in West Tennessee to become outstanding educators and members of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Currently, Theta Chapter has 32 active members who work as educators in public schools, private schools, and universities. Theta Chapter meets each month to work on chapter excellence and community excellence as well. The ladies of the chapter participate in programs such as Schools for Africa and Operation Christmas Child. Local programs that are part of Theta Chapter's community involvement include working with new educators in the community and working with local entities such as museums.
